In all honesty, both softwares have their ups and downs but I prefer Anki because of the amount of customization and being able to study on the go. Another think that I like is the amount of customization that is possible with add-ons, so you are able to tailor certain things to fit the way that you study. Another issue that I have is that RemNote does not have a mobile app like Anki does so I can study on the go, but I believe I have heard rumors that it is in development.Īnki: I like having the option for studying on the go with the app, the only downfall is the cost for IOS. One think that I am not a fan of is that I have to pay for image occlusion, whereas in Anki it is a free add-on. I also like the idea of creating references and having a linked database to be able to see how the information is connected together. RemNote: I do like how in RemNote you are able to create rems easily and in a note taking style way compared to Anki. As a free app, I can easily recommend SiriMote to any Siri Remote owner, you may not have a use for it today, but you never know what tomorrow might require. In my opinion both have their advantages and disadvantages. I doubt I’ll use SiriMote regularly, but if I ever need to run a Keynote presentation from my MacBook Air, I know that I can turn my Siri Remote into one of those fancy “clickers” in less than a minute. That means swiping and tapping won’t do anything when connected to your Mac. Turn your Mac system-volume up or down and control iTunes, Keynote, QuickTime, VLC Player and more (any app that responds to the media keys on your Macs keyboard). The only exception is that clicking the touch surface will emulate the Next Track media key, or Fast Forward if you hold it down. SiriMote lets you control your Mac with your Apple TV Siri Remote. Unfortunately, for now at least, the touch surface of the Siri Remote can’t be used by SiriMote. Because it is simply emulating the standard media keys, SiriMote works with iTunes, Keynote, QuickTime, VLC and other apps that work with the Mac media keys. SiriMote works by translating buttons on the Siri Remote into buttons from a keyboard (specifically, the media keys). There’s no doubt it is a bit fiddly to set up, but once it’s set up, it works great. To pair the Siri Remote you’ll need to turn off your Apple TV, press the Menu and Volume Up buttons on the Siri Remote for a few seconds and pair it from OS X’s Bluetooth settings, located in System Preferences. SiriMote works by pairing the Siri Remote to any Mac that supports Bluetooth 4.0 and is running OS X El Capitan. The unofficial subreddit for the flashcard app Anki. It’s a free app from Eternal Storms Software, which also makes Yoink and Transloader, amongst other apps. The creator of the deck, who scored an impressive 260+ on the exam itself, is case in proof. According to hundreds of testimonials from high scoring med students however, the Anking deck (a modified version of Zanki) is probably the most effective. The Siri Remote for the Apple TV does still use IR for certain functions, but most of its communications are now done via Bluetooth 4.0.īut if you’d like to use your Siri Remote with your Mac, you can with SiriMote. There is no hard evidence on what the best anki deck is for the USMLE Step 1. But since then, IR receivers have gone the way of the DVD drive and, chances are, your Mac doesn’t have one. Back then most of Apple’s laptop’s (including mine) came with a built-in infrared (IR) receiver and the functions of the Apple TV remote automatically worked with iTunes and some other Mac apps. Back when I owned a 2008 MacBook and the second-generation Apple TV, I remember occasionally using the Apple TV remote with my Mac.
